NYT Cooking: Recipes & Tips アプリのレビュー

If you cook, the subscription is worth it

If you are willing to invest in a subscription to NYT Cooking, this app is fabulous. I love the newer features that make it easy to navigate to recipes you’ve viewed recently and to maintain and search your collection of saved recipes. Searching and filtering the whole recipe collection is also a breeze. The homepage is becoming a fun place to go to discover new recipes, and I love the new emphasis on video. I appreciate the thought that NYT Cooking puts into this app when they’re competing against recipe ideas shared for “free” on social media; NYT recipes are developed by professionals, they’re tastier and more creative than what you’ll find on social media, and they don’t require you to donate your time to advertisers. This app makes me look forward to planning my meals each week.

Favorite app!

Thank you for fixing the issue with the small comments window on iPad! A subscription to NYT cooking is one of my favorite purchases I’ve ever made. So many good recipes and ideas. The best part is the community notes on the recipes. So much value!

Best cooking app-the only one i use!

I love this app. I lean towards the easier and quicker recipes. The notes from the community are helpful- for instance, if you’re wondering, can i make this with salmon instead? Someone will tell you. Plus, I get good ideas from others’ comments. It’s set up so you can easily read role steps as you cook.

Title says it all. NYT apps require a paid subscription.

Make searching for recipes easier pls

It’s like shopping. I’m shopping for a recipe. I want to refine searches and have a detailed sub-categories. Real life example: it’s lent. I want to make something for fish Friday. I should be able to navigate like Protein> Fish> Trout, Cod, etc or Seafood> shrimp, lobster, etc. and then apply the other filters like gluten free, etc. currently, from the main search menu I have to click on I guess “dinner” would be the most relevant, and navigate the most vague filter headings (Meal Types includes difficulty - “easy”- as well as time consuming - “quick” - as well as number of servings-“for two”. The More section is my favorite. We have cooking method - “insta pot” and also more meal types - “soups and stews” and whatever “project” is. And because the filtering is just a cluster of tags, there’s no way to see more of say cooking methods, beyond the four listed. ). So anyways, I select the “gluten free” tag, and now I’ve got gluten free dinners. I guess I’ll type “fish” in the search bar. I’m like if you’re not gonna give me all the filters up front, then at least give me relevant suggestions as I refine my search. Like suggest the filters for “cod” or “shrimp” under the search bar. Throw me a bone.

Great library of recipes!

Always a great resource of ideas and inspiration!!!!!

Cooking Up a Storm

NYT Cooking is the best app and my top reason for subscribing to The Times. Love, love, LOVE!

High altitude and esoteric ingredients

Would have been a “5” if not for …. At 7,000 ft, cooking, especially baking, presents many challenges. I’ve been enjoying feeding myself and others for almost 50 years with the last 25 living in the mountains. Wouldn’t change my geographical choice but must admit that, even in the kitchen, the learning curve finish line stays well beyond me. Adapt or die, right? Obviously I choose the former. But, as much as I love the NYT cooking section (and the comments!), my complaint is the unrealistic prep and/or cooking time given for many of your recipes. Almost as frustrating is the fact that so many recipes call for esoteric ingredients that are locally unavailable. And I hate having to rely on the internet as my only purveyor option. I do understand that your target audience is predominantly East coast and urban, but still …. Many times I must search online for even the meaning of ingredients. All that to say, I’m still a loyal yearly subscriber to the venerable Gray Lady and can’t imagine living the rural life without y’all! So many thanks from the high Southwest.

Great for Recipes

If you’re in look for cooking inspo…great one pot recipes!

Love the app but why the ads

We pay so much for this app::::well worth it for the recipes but ad content is constantly increasing. There should be a free version with ads, and those that pay every year should be free of them

Great recipes! Could use some more features

I’ve been using this app for over a year now and have found tons of really great recipes, especially when I remember to read the reviews as there’s usually a lot of great advice in there. I think NYT could easily earn that 5th star by adding a few features, 1. I’d love to have access to the newsletters inside the app instead of having to go find them in my email and then click through to the recipes in the app. 2. I’d love to be able to filter recipes to exclude ingredients because I live in a place where produce is still seasonal. I do make my own substitutions, but when something is hard to find (fresh spinach and limes are two that I am affected by), it’s sad to get excited by a great looking photo and recipe and then read through to find ingredients I just can’t get at the moment. Otherwise, this is my first stop for my daily dinner plan.

Good recipe but needs new features

It’s got good recipes and generally presents them in an easy to follow way, but it needs two things. 1) ability to follow friends and see what they’re making and rating. That would be very helpful 2) some ability to search for receipts based on what ingredients they have.

Let down

App will not let me access the “free” content and refused to let me past the subscription page

Love with one small critique

I love this app. Use these recipes almost exclusively every week. Love the notes section for my tweaks. Only critique is that you must know the exact name of the recipe to find it quickly.

Can’t bookmark or save

The app doesn’t let me save or bookmark recipes-why?

Great recipes

I have really enjoyed the recipes. They’re well written and have great explanations. It’s also nice to see other comments.

My first choice for recipes

I enjoy cooking with this app now that I’m retired and no longer need to cook everyday. I’ve learned so much about other cuisines and methods of cooking. The selection of recipes is vast, and they are usually extremely well explained and tested. The comments are invaluable

Reviews.

I wish I could read the reviews. I have had very good advice from other sites by reading comments.

My go to cooking app

I use NYT Cooking at least 3 times a week. Best of all my husband has been using this app to learn to cook and loving it!

Cannot print or save recipes in box

Needs to have bugs fixed. Says check back in a few minutes ALWAYS

Treat for me

Love this app. Great content and functionality. I don’t pay for many apps but this one I truly value and enjoy supporting.

Always find what I need

I have not purchased a cookbook in years. Love that I can save and file recipes for later. Reading other’s notes is very helpful as far as ingredient substitutions and method tips.

The best thing period

NYT cooking is pure excellence —delivered every day! The user experience is exemplary, a role model for everybody else, and the diversity of the food, the writing, the way to organize content and the photography is simply wonderful. Thank you!

Great recipes! Too many ads though

I love the app and it has made me a better cook. I hate the ads though.

Love It

I am a rookie cook that loves the variety of the recipes and have always enjoyed what I’ve cooked.

Ads even with premium membership

They just added enormous full page ads across the app even for paying subscribers. Awful experience.

Subscription required. Not cheap.

money

i’m not paying any money just to use this app

“Sort by highest rated”

There must have been an update to the algorithm for sorting by highest rated recipes and it’s terrible now. The top of the list used to show the most popular recipes, with thousands of 5 star reviews. Now it shows obscure recipes with only a few reviews. Example: the #5 recipe in the “Easy” category is now “Nearly Naked Fluke With Grapefruit” and it has 5 reviews… no thanks.

Fantastic

This subscription has renewed my love for cooking. I'm completely hooked. It's fantastic. I don't know why I waited so long to get this subscription.

Where are my “Private” Notes???

I have just loved this app and tell all of my home-cook friends it’s worth every penny. Until . . . an update made it so I can no longer see the “Private” Notes I have carefully crafted and saved for my personal reference. (Elon? Elon, is that you??) I really, really hope NYT Cooking fixes this issue and gives me back my Notes.

Ads In the app

I love this app but find it unacceptable that I pay for a subscription but you still show ads in the app.

Never ceases to delight

Chicken pot pie to skillet cornbread. There is always a recipe highlighted to make cooking dinner fun and yummy! Options are endless.

NYT Cooking App

I love the recipes and the format. My favorite part is the comment section, a great community with unlimited suggestions to personalize the recipes. I deducted a star because I am cooking for one and I wish they had a tab to reduce the number of portions made with the recipe. 4-6 portions are the average and I don’t want to freeze that much or eat that many leftovers. Even a half would be a game changer.

Recipes are great but app is terrible

NYT has a huge database of recipes and most of them turn out well. But the app has so little functionality that it’s hard to find what you want. I wish you could use the filters as switches, to eliminate recipes not of interest. I wish searches using multiple search term worked so we could list a few ingredients and narrow down the results to recipes contacting those ingredients. Instead, it’s a giant haystack of pretty good recipes in which it’s impossible to find exactly what you’re looking for. It’s just not worth the time scrolling through chaff to unearth the wheat.

Recipe Box erased … again

Yesterday our recipe box got erased for the second time in the last 2 months.

Awesome app and recipes

I should start with saying that we are vegetarians. This app (and the newsletter) recognizes this minority and does a good job of providing recipes that suits our lifestyle. What would be even better is if there was a setting/preference and only vegetarian recipes showed up for me. While I am at it, how about knowing the preferences on other restrictions (we don’t do eggs) and automatically provide substitutions in the recipe.

I can cook Asian Food now!

And Indian and Persian. And even new good ole American food. I get new ideas everyday. And it’s all delicious.

No way out

Recipes are great. Impossible to cancel subscription.

What Happened to My Recipe Box?

Upon renewing my subscription, more than 75 recipes in my Recipe Box are gone. Any hope I can reclaim my favorites?

Best app I pay for

This is one of the only apps I have that I feel good about paying for every month. I get so much out of it. The recipes are great. I get to share 10 per month with non-subscribers. The UI is natural and easy to use. And on top of it they have cookie week every year. 10/10 love it.

App is easy to use, wish there were more recipe collections to boost inspiration

I love this app and the ease of use, from a great UI design to grocery list features, to amazing recipe collections. Once my subscription trial has ended, I am on the fence of keeping this app. Currently, I am interested in learning the basics of cooking, including those ‘base’ recipes, like the perfect bolognese. If there were more curated collections for users like me that are learning to cook and want to try those key recipes, then that would make me keep using this app over and over.

Have Enjoyed for Many Years

I really love finding new recipes to try an test my skill in the kitchen. The food editors at The New York Times have done an amazing job curating recipes for decades, and they are all in this app. Not every recipe was a hit for me, but that’s part of the journey. The best part is not having to scroll through a novella to get to a recipe.

Some great recipes

Always enjoy finding new recipes from NYT - lots of good ones that always seem to fit an occasion.

The recipies always work. The Times test kitchen only turns out restaurant quality recipies.

This is my favorite go to for recipies. Ive tried other places on the net but the recipies here are consistently sensational.

Ads if you like it of not

I like the recipes, I like that comments and helpful comments are available. I don’t like the new saved recipes book sorting but by biggest complaint is that I pay a monthly fee that has gone up to access the app and yet I’m forced to sort through ads. Again, recipes are great, but why am I paying access only to have ads as well.

♥️♥️♥️

I am hooked on this app! Every day I find something tempting to cook, & I get especially excited when I have all the ingredients! I was sick and housebound for the month of January and this app kept me busy and happy. I also appreciate the videos, when unsure of one of the steps. Thank you!

Exceptional

This is my go to for everything food. Not once have you led me astray!
